Semester Reflection
Introduction
This semester I worked on four projects, ONW Procedures, 1 in 2000, Advance Feature Story, and ONW NOW Sophomore Edition. The projects all took a couple of weeks to produce. The projects i'm most proud of are the Advance Feature Story and my teams story for ONW NOW Sophomore edition.
Advance Feature Story
The point of the project was to come up with a news story and interview someone related to that topic and my team chose baseball. The entirety of the project to a little less than two weeks. One of the challenges we faced was when the baseball games were. One of the things I learned along the way was how to differentiate the volume between multiple audio files. One bit of feedback that was received was that the brightness of the clips that were outside were good. One of the things I would change is the shadows in the background of the interview. My overall opinion for the video is that it was well made but there are some spots that could be better.
ONW NOW Sophomore Edition
The point of the project was to find topics and turn them into a sophomore version of ONW NOW our schools news broadcast. My team went with wrestling for our sports topic. This project took two weeks to complete. A challenge that my team faced was that we didn't have enough B-roll and had to get some more the day before the final edit was due. Along the way I learned how much time and effort is put into the voice overs. A piece of feedback that was given stated that my voice over didn't have enough emotion in what I was saying. One thing I would change is that I should have put more time and thought into the voice overs.
Productivity
Whenever we had time in class to work on projects I never used it to the fullest but I still used it wisely. In order to stay productive I usually listened to music to block out distractions. If i'm assigned a project for 8 hours and it only takes me 7 I spend the next hour getting feedback from peers and make edits based on those pieces of feedback. Outside of class I watched news stories and identified the different parts that make a good news story.
Strengths and Weaknesses
One of my biggest strength is camera placement. At the beginning of the semester we made our own videos to showcase our knowledge with working behind a camera and one of the comments that everyone was saying was that I had good camera placement. One of my biggest weaknesses would have to be how easily I get distracted. During most of our projects I would almost always get distracted by the small things going on in the background.
Experience Making ONW NOW
My roll in the filming for our news story was the person that did the voice over for our story. The video my team made was about the wrestling team and their goals for this season. What I learned through the process of making this is how much time, effort, and thought gets put into news stories.
Summary
One of the things I loved about this semester is that there never was a dull moment in the class with everyone's different personalities. The two things I would change would be my work ethics and the quality of the work I produce. One thing I learned from this semester is that I now have a bigger interest for camera work. One goal for next year that I have is to make sure that all of my productions are top notch.
