Bullseye
Self-Portrait Video
'
In my self portrait I chose to express myself by shooting my bow and arrow. I chose this to represent myself because it's a unique skill that requires a calm mind and a thoughtful personality. I wanted to show that I had a skill that not a lot of people at my age can do. This was the first video idea I thought of making when I was given this assignment. I was inspired by many video games where the main character uses a bow and arrow frequently.
The point of archery is very simple. All you have to do is attach the arrow to the bow and pull the arrow and the string to the back, when you are ready to shoot the arrow just let go of the string. Archery is a simple concept. Use the bow to put the arrow in the bulls-eye. Even though the concept is simple executing it is a lot more complex. When I shot this video I had to make sure the light wasn't to bright or to dark. For the camera angle I placed it on a shelf outside in my families gazebo. For the camera angle I wanted to get a wide shot where you could see the target and I wasn't taking up some of the shot.
The thinking process was a little bit tough I couldn't think of anything that would seem interesting or that not a lot of people would do. What I hope viewers get from this video is how important the camera angle and lighting are. I think I was pretty successful with what I wanted to show, the camera was steady and the lighting wasn't to bright or to dark. The challenges I faced were the weather and the wind. I had to wait until the wind wasn't blowing because then the audio would be messed up and change the result of my shots. I tried to complete this fast but not sloppy because it was going to rain soon. The thing I like the most about my portrait is when the target turned to the other direction, I shot on the opposite side to get the target balanced. I liked that part because before that the targets I had been shooting were weighed down so they wouldn't move. Something I will do differently next time is put more thought and practice into my video. One of the things that I learned from this process is that at the beginning I should have added a brief explanation of what is going on.
