Senior Capstone Final

Over the course of my 4 years in e-Comm, I can say that I have definitely improved in the five Guarantees. The one that improved the most was technical skills because we constantly learned new things about software or filming equipment. When it comes to communication I learned how important it is to be clear and make sure everyone understands what you're talking about. Collaboration is another big one because you learn your group members' strengths and weaknesses and play to their strengths. I didn't do much with leadership but there were times where I took charge when it was needed. Project management was a tough one because even though it seemed like we had a lot of time for our projects we really didn't and that is something that can make or break your career.      My biggest strengths are editing, doing sound on set, and a little bit of gaffing.  My biggest weakness is I know the bare minimum about the camera and I'm not really that goo...

Film Reel 2020

Image
This video is the most recent film reel that I made where I feel like it really represents who I am as a creator. The way it represented myself in the reel was by putting in all of the videos that I have been an editor for as well as a few others. I do think that this reel showed some of my best shots even though some are better than others in the reel. One of the things that I did that really stood out was use a scene from the featured film trailer we had last year. I mostly branded myself as an editor because most of the videos in the reel I was an editor for them, but on a few, I was also the gaffer. What I would do differently is make the audio mixing better because some shots already had music in them and I couldn't find the right balance. Other than the audio mixing I would pretty much do everything the same because I feel that everything else was really good. The experience I gained from this is that you can include anything you have worked on even if it didn't get finis...

Updated Film Reel blogpost

Image
The overall concept behind the order I put my video clips in is progression. I start with the first thing I did in Ecomm and then go through all of my work up to the most recent. For the first few video assignments, I was the editor but for the last few I was the art director. I showed good cinematography by picking out the best clips from each video.  I edited the clips together using fades and cuts that matched the tempo of the song. What I would do the same is to keep them in order of the first project I did to the last one. Because I feel that one of the best ways to show what someone is capable of is the progression they have made throughout the year. What I would do differently is change the length of the later clips because they are too long. The only thing missing from my film reel is the music video that we are working on.

Professional Project Review

Image
For this blog post, we had to review music videos and write a professional review on them. The song I chose is Not Gonna Die by Skillet. the video follows a little girl and her friend which is a lion fighting a 6 headed dragon but they keep getting hurt and knocked down. The video ends with the two outsmarting the dragon instead of overpowering it and they almost die if it wasn't for the buildings that fell on top of it. Even though the video was entirely animated it still uses a few of the principles of filmmaking.  There isn't something new with each edit but there is for most of them. there are a lot of different angles and shot sizes.  There aren't any huge jump cuts. The story is unique to me because the music video is entirely animated which  I think they did very well. One element I would apply to my own work is how well it's edited with the words matching what the singer is saying. One of the things I think it could improve on is the number of running shots ...

Short Film

Image
For this project, everyone had to make a script and present it to the class and we voted on who's we should do. Mine didn't make the cut so I went with my friend Connor's script which was titled Franklin's Cake. The concept of his script was that there is a scientist who forgot his anniversary with his girlfriend so he makes a cake for her but he accidentally adds in a chemical that brings the cake to life and it tries to kill his girlfriend. The team I had on this project was Connor Hellwinckel as the director, Ryan Moore as the editor, John Cardaronella as the camera operator, and Ethan McCulloch as the UPM, I was the art director. Pre-production took longer than we would have liked it too because our script editors kept changing things that the other didn't like. Our actors were Quinn Gash as Franklin and Sydney Largen as Karen with Kellan Harris as the voice of the cake. With being the art director I learned how to be more creative with the stuff that will be ...

Video Entertainment semester review

Image
This semester we did so much in video entertainment that really helped me grow as a filmmaker and the roles I like to play when making those films. The very first assignment we had was camera assignment 1 where we had to make a short video about either a PSA, informational video, a music video, or a mini short film. My group decided to make a mini short film that we titled Simply Complex. Simply Complex is a mini short film that revolves around a man named Albert Franklin III, who has a habit of making things way more complicated than they have to be. In it, he goes to a job interview to be a teacher at his local high school, but something terrible happens and franklin is the only one smart enough to stop it. This project took a good couple of weeks to make. We didn't really run into that many problems except for finding a time when a teacher would be available to be used in our film. Along the way, I learned the importance of camera angles because there were a few shots where a...

Semester reflection

This semester was pretty good all of the videos we made were pretty good. My favorite two are the short film and the music video even though we didn't finish the music video. My partners for the music video were: Malik Alexander, Lucas Wright, and Jeremiah Henderson. The song we used was Cradles by NCS. We had some trouble with filming because not everyone was able to be at the recording because of work. We did what we could with that problem and got it done, but we couldn't get all the clips we needed. In the short story, I worked with DJ, Malik, Ariana, Caitlyn. The story was about these two teens named Andre and Draymond who were played by Malik and DJ, and they decide to rob a mafia boss for money. Then after they do they get jumped by two goons and taken back to the mob boss named Vinny where he will decide their fate. I was co-director and helped set up some of the shots and Caitlyn and Ariana were the editors. I thought all of the videos we made were good but these two w...

Music Video

Image
In this project we had to make a music video for a song that our teacher approved. It didn't matter if the song had a video or not. My team thought it would be better to do a song that didn't have a video because the expectations for the video wouldn't be as high. This project was pretty difficult to do with the conditions we had. Two of my teammates always had to work and weren't available a-lot. The amount of time we had wasn't bad, but with the schedule problems we had it seemed to cut that time in half. Another big problem we ran into was with the problems we had with scheduling is that we didn't get enough shots so there is a minute of nothing in the video. A couple things that I thought was really good was the idea we had for the video and how we put it into action. The idea we had was a kid with schizophrenia going through a normal school day but one of the symptoms for schizophrenia is hallucination, so while he was going throughout his day he kept thi...

ONW NOW Sophomore Edition

Image
The overall point of this project was to find a topic and turn it into a news story for the sophomore edition of ONW NOW our schools news system. My team chose wrestling so we interviewed one of the members on the team and asked him his thought's on the wrestling season. My roll in the production of this video was I did the voice over. Something that my team struggled with was we didn't have enough voice over for the amount of B-roll we had because of the time requirement. One of the things I would want to change was that I didn't put enough emotion into my voice for the voice over.

Semester Reflection

Image
Semester Reflection Introduction This semester I worked on four projects, ONW Procedures, 1 in 2000, Advance Feature Story, and ONW NOW Sophomore Edition. The projects all took a couple of weeks to produce. The projects i'm most proud of are the Advance Feature Story and my teams story for ONW NOW Sophomore edition.  Advance Feature Story The point of the project was to come up with a news story and interview someone related to that topic and my team chose baseball. The entirety of the project to a little less than two weeks. One of the challenges we faced was when the baseball games were. One of the things I learned along the way was how to differentiate the volume between multiple audio files. One bit of feedback that was received was that the brightness of the clips that were outside were good. One of the things I would change is the shadows in the background of the interview. My overall opinion for the video is that it was well made but there are some spots that coul...

ONW Procedure

Image
The objective of this video was to show a specific procedure and how to do it correctly for the freshman. The procedure that my team chose was how to correctly ask the teacher for a pass to fill up a water bottle. Some of the challenges we faced were the time constraint we had. The length of our clips were pretty long and we had quite a bit of them as well. Our final product had to be no more than 30 seconds and the shortest clip we had was ten seconds and we had at least 5 clips that were longer than that. If there would e something I would change it would be the number of clips we had and the length of the clips.

Bullseye

Image
Self-Portrait Video ' In my self portrait I chose to express myself by shooting my bow and arrow. I chose this to represent myself because it's a unique skill that requires a calm mind and a thoughtful personality. I wanted to show that I had a skill that not a lot of people at my age can do. This was the first video idea I thought of  making when I was given this assignment. I was inspired by many video games where the main character uses a bow and arrow frequently. The point of archery is very simple. All you have to do is attach the arrow to the bow and pull the arrow and the string to the back, when you are ready to shoot the arrow just let go of the string. Archery is a simple concept. Use the bow to put the arrow in the bulls-eye. Even though the concept is simple executing it is a lot more complex. When I shot this video I had to make sure the light wasn't to bright or to dark. For the camera angle I placed it on a shelf outside in my families gazebo. For the...

Q4 Team Project

Image
Quarter 4 Project Product and Presentation The project was to create a invention and present it to a group of people like we were in an episode of shark tank. My team decided to make a doorway that could teleport you to your destination within seconds of stepping through. The project didn't take as long as I thought it would, I thought it would take longer than a couple of months.  Some of the challenges that my team and I faced were when we would finish everything we needed to in time and if it was good enough or not. Along the way I learned that even if something is messed up don't start over use it and take it as an advantage. Some feedback that we were given was that we didn't seem to have any enthusiasm in our voices during the practice presentations. So what I did to fix that is tell myself that the project is the best that we could have done and i'm proud of it, I didn't focus on what we could have done but didn't have the time. Overall my opinion o...

Css and CARP Design

Image
In this project we had to change the design of a website using Adobe Dreamweaver. This project was not that hard to do as long as you know what you are doing. We had a list and a couple of videos to watch. The top picture is the website without CSS styles and the bottom is with some minor Css styles. The only problem that I would have to say with the bottom one is the fact that the dog is going off of the screen. We started off with the top one then changed the font, text size, color, background and moved the dog and thats how we ended up with the bottom. when you go to the website you can click the word up at the top to switch between the page with and without Css styles. This project helped teach us how to use Adobe Dreamweaver and to become more familiar with it. Its used for more than designing websites. Its not that complicated or hard to understand. I know that there are a lot more things that I could do with Dreamweaver but until I can learn how this is all I can do. Its a l...

My personality

Image
The other day I took a personality test and I got ESFP. Which stands for me being Extrovert(41%) Sensing(12%) Feeling(9%) Perceiving(6%). I've never really thought about what type of personality I have just the fact that I have one and not knowing how to explain it. I would say that this test is accurate. After taking this test I realized that this matches me pretty well. I am pretty extroverted when it comes to other people. Also adding up the percentages only equals 68% percent of my personality. That's ok it just means that there is more to know about me. There is a website where you can find celebrities with the same personality as you and its pretty cool. One of the actors that had my personality was Will Smith who is my favorite actor. Looking back at the roles he played in TV shows and movies I can see that we do have the same personality.  I took another test and it compares your personality to a Lion, Otter, Beaver, and a Golden Retriever. It was ...

AB Sequence

Image
In this project I learned how to make the 6-shots look better and not as shaky as before. We had an idea that a student was trying to sneak out of school but there are a couple of hall monitors in the way. My partners were great in the making of this video they really helped a lot. My partners were Alexander Evans and Gabrielle Martell. Alex was the main actor as he was the student trying to get out of school. I was the camera person but I had a minor role in the video as a security guard. Gabrielle also had a roll as one of the security guard and she helped me setup the shots and told me whatI was supposed to do regarding the camera.  The editing process was pretty easy with some minor bumps. Unfortunately I couldn't make it 45-60 seconds without having any clips be to long and boring. Alex had the idea that we would do a mission impossible kind of thing but we had to make a couple of changes. Along the way we added some ideas to the video like having Gabrielle watch the secur...

How to Print Challenge

Image
My team had the idea to make a video about how to print for a school assignment but still make it a little funny. The story is that we printed a piece of paper and someone has to go get the paper. I was the camera man, Andrew was the actor, Alex planned the shots that we shoot. The editing took time to get used to since i have never used it before. I used Adobe Premiere Pro to edit this video. While making and editing this video I learned how to operate a camera on a tripod and all of the possible angles that make a great video. This took some time to make with some mistakes but we managed to finish. If I had to do anything differently I would make it less choppy and have the shots be a little more level. If I had to do something the same I would keep the music and the shots. If I had to experiences from this project it would be what shots work for a specific type of  movements, the music should match the pace of the character.

Ball Gifs

Image
The point of these projects was to animate a little bit to get the hang of it and get familiar with Adobe Photoshop and with the types of animation there is. The process was a little slow first we had to make an outline of where the ball would go. Second we had to make multiple copies of the ball and make them have invisible. Then we had to take the frame pictures and turn the current one invisible and the next one visible over and over until we finished. Through out these projects I learned that photoshop could be used to create animations. If I had to do this differently i would make it less chunky and more smooth. I would keep the animations the same.

Anatomy of Typography

Image
The project was to analyze the anatomy in letters. We had to find 10 different typefaces on our name. If I had to do one thing differently I would find more difficult Typefaces to recognize. First what we had to do was type our name on the type line then analyze the different parts of it.
